LOOK WHO’S COME FOR TEA!

After the great success of the Berlin Hipgnosis exhibition DARING TO DREAM during the European Month of Photography Berlin 2018, Browse Gallery is sending its Hipgnosis retrospective on tour through Germany (next stops: Lüneburg opening on 19.1.2019 and Wilhelmshaven opening on 16.3.2019). In Berlin Browse Gallery continues to explore its current thematic focus with a new exhibition.

LOOK WHO’S COME FOR TEA!, curated by John Colton, presents Album Cover Art and photo portraits of musicians by a wide variety of designers and photographers from different countries and over a span of three decades from the 1960s to the 1980s.

Hipgnosis  revolutionized album cover design through their innovative concepts which made commercial sleeve design into art loved by millions. May of their works became icons of pop music and popular culture with prevailing appeal. Their radical approaches and their productivity made them into the most famous album cover design studio worldwide.
Nonetheless there were and are sleeve designers before, next to and after Hipgnosis, who also created great album cover artworks and icons of pop music.

The Browse Gallery exhibition shows a selection of iconic album cover art pieces, presented in enlarged, beautiful limited edition prints signed by the artists.
Among those are for example David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust and Hunky Dory of british photodesigner, airbrush artist and painter Terry Pastor,  Debbie Harry’s KooKoo of the “Alien creator”  H.R. Giger, B.B. King by Robert Crumb, Queen’s A Night at the Opera by Brian May & Robert Taylor, De La Soul’s 3 Feet High and Rising by Toby Mott, Billy Idol’s White Wedding by David Storey, Tom Waits’ Swordfishtrombones by Michael A. Russ, The Verve’s Storm in Heaven by Michael Spencer Jones and many more.
